    - Swearing to God, prophets, saints, etc.

    Due to these morbid thoughts, sufferers usually withdraw themselves from society. They think that if others learn about his/her improper thoughts, they will be blamed or condemned. As their family and friends do not know what scrupulosity is, they usually ridicule them. Because of all these negative feedbacks, these individuals usually try to decrease their guilt with cleaning, washing and bathing compulsively. They also tend to believe they deserve eternal damnation as a punishment for having these thoughts.

    Even though dealing with scrupulosity is tough, it can be healed with psychotherapy, medication and self-help. These days many people still have no idea what scrupulosity is and what it is like to live with religious OCD.

    Having scrupulosity leads to many problems in an individual's life. The first thing that these people must know is that scrupulosity is a controllable and treatable disorder. The obsessive thoughts are not their fault, and they will not be punished by God. They should know that being a sinner and suffering from religious OCD are completely different things. The good thing is, some of these people realize that these thoughts are not real but is unable to manage their guilt towards God. With psychotherapy sessions, they can gain insight and produce alternative thoughts to overcome scrupulosity.
