The two cities share a common border and together are almost always called Kitchener-Waterloo or K-W.

    The city of Cambridge is located in the southern part of Waterloo Region and has a population of just over 120,000. Cambridge came into existence in 1973 with the merging of the towns of Galt, Preston, Hespeler and Blair. Many local people felt the merger was a "shotgun marriage" forced on them by the Province of Ontario.

    Today Waterloo Region is among the most dynamic and fastest growing areas in Canada because it has some of the best farm land in Canada, two well respected Universities, a strong financial industry, numerous manufacturing plants and a burgeoning high tech sector centered around Research in Motion and numerous spinoff businesses from the region's two univeristies.
